About the Festival
Since 2002, UWPG Film Festival has showcased the work of post-secondary student filmmakers. Our mission is to provide a stepping stone for student filmmakers and be a catalyst for some to expose them to the greater industry outside of their post-secondary institutions and celebrate them and their art. The festival provides the opportunity for emerging filmmakers to screen their work , which is a key component to the filmmaking process. At UWPGFF, we produce short film screenings, talks and workshops as a way for both our local and greater communities to look, listen and learn - sharing in part with what unites us: our love for cinema.
Throughout the last three years, UWPG Film Festival has been committed to providing a program that is more representative of diversity and excellence in student filmmaking. We are pleased to announce that this year, of the 80 films selected, 49 are directed by women, non-binary and transgender filmmakers. Additionally, over half of the official selection is directed by people of colour. As a personal mission of festival director, Miranda Moroz, she is happy to provide a program that is actually reflective of the student filmmakers of today and we, at UWPG Film Festival are so excited to share it with you.
A year like no other!
The festival takes place from October 19th - 23rd, with nightly screenings on YouTube live at 7:00 PM CST.
The Festival takes place entirely ONLINE and all of our programming is free.
