The Super 6: U of W Alumni panel gives Manitoban film professionals a chance to share their experiences with both experienced and aspiring film professionals.

Emily Labby: FTM Training and Partnerships Manager
Emily Labby is the Training and Partnerships Manager at Film Training Manitoba and a graduate of the University of Winnipeg, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies. She has produced her own short films and contributed to various local independent projects and music videos. Emily has served as Production Coordinator for local production companies, Frank Digital and Zoot Pictures, and she has recently worked in the same role on the feature film Hair of the Bear.

Joshua Hood: Writer & Producer
 Joshua Hood is a Writer and Producer based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He first picked up a camera at three years old and has never put one down since. At the age of 15, he began working in television with Shaw TV Winnipeg as a Producer/Editor, creating content with the channel for three years. Joshua has edited hundreds of hours of local television, produced dozens of news-style stories, short and full-length documentaries, and acted as Showrunner for three seasons of his award-winning comedy series, Millworth. Joshua is currently creating and writing original television, with a mission to tell stories for everyone.  

Trevor Hnatwich: Senior Producer, Co-owner of Enjoy Creative
From television to film, documentary to commercial video, Trevor Hnatowich has a decade of experience in the film industry across various roles. In his current position as a Senior Producer and Co-Owner at Enjoy Creative, Trevor focuses on commercial work, where he loves meeting new clients, learning about their industries, and helping them find creative and powerful solutions with video.  
 
Haley Charney: Filmmaker, First Assistant Director & Writer
Haley Charney is a filmmaker, first assistant director, and writer in Treaty 1 Territory. Charney is the director of two documentaries, Home Away from Home and Next Gen, produced for CBC Creator Network. Charney has also directed in the true crime genre, including episodes of Refuge 31’s Almost Unsolved: Heists and Hour to Kill from Farpoint Films Inc. Charney has screened her films at Gimli International Film Festival, Ourtoba Film Fest, and various other screenings and events. As a first assistant director, Charney has worked on many projects, including feature films, commercials, shorts, and television shows.

Sidney Phommarath: Filmmaker
Sidney Phommarath is a Lao-Canadian filmmaker from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a degree in Filmmaking and a minor in Human rights. She has been working in the film industry for 3 years and has produced various films through the CBC Creator Network. Her main focus is documentary filmmaking which is fueled by her passion for honest storytelling.

JJ Neepin: Writer & Director
JJ Neepin is an Indigenous writer & director based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is a member of the Fox Lake Cree Nation. JJ is the founder of JJNeepinFilms INC. and has screened many of her works in festivals around the world. She began her TV career directing for several documentary series including APTN’s Taken and Michif Country. In 2022 JJ made the move from documentary to scripted television and directed an episode of CTV’s Hudson & Rex, season 5. In Spring of 2024 she directed an episode of CTV’s Acting Good, season 3..

Keynote Speaker - Fabian Velasco

Fabian Velasco is a Canadian filmmaker originally born in Argentina. His films have screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, SXSW among many others. His first feature length film Tapeworm premiered at the 2019 Vancouver International Film Festival in Canada, and Slamdance Film Festival in the US. He has been part of the programming team for the Gimli International Film Festival and programmer of narrative features at Slamdance.
