UWPG Film Festival prepares for its exciting 2023 line-up.

Starting this week, the 21st Annual UWPG Film Festival is back from October 18th - 21st! Get ready for an incredible showcase of Manitoban, Canadian and International post-secondary works.

“We are excited to be offering three Shorts Programs this year that feature a variety of Manitoban, Canadian and International Shorts from all different genres. Also returning is a variety of industry panels and talks such as the popular Film Training Manitoba Super 6 Panel and this year’s Keynote Speaker Ervin Chartrand, a former graduate of the film program at the University of Winnipeg,” says Festival Director Eric Peterson.

The festival will take place over 3 days in-person at The University of Winnipeg Asper Centre for Theatre and Film (400 Colony St) and will continue the tradition of offering a virtual encore screening of all the films via Youtube Live on October 21st at 6pm.

Screenings take place on

October 18th 8:15pm - Shorts 1

October 19th 8:15pm - Shorts 2

October 20th 7:45pm - Shorts 3

Stay tuned Tuesday, October 17th as we announce the award nominees for this year’s festival. Then join us on Friday, October 20th at 9pm for our Awards Ceremony, followed by a reception in the Asper Centre for Theatre and Film lobby.

UWPGFF’s mission is to provide a stepping stone for student filmmakers to expose themselves to the greater industry outside of their post-secondary institutions and celebrate new emerging filmmakers.

Peterson adds, “This year’s work from Manitoba once again shows the ever growing and diverse stories that are being told in our province, while the national submissions give us a look into the wider work being done across the country by the next generation of filmmakers. We are delighted with this years selection and look forward to seeing you at this year’s festival.”
